6 - 8 June 2003
A weekend of thirty
artists, musicians and performers
Real Institute in association with Grizedale Arts present Road Show
a wacky weekend of international art, music, film, performance, stalls
and sport on a football pitch in Blaenau Ffestiniog, 6 - 8 June 2003.
Events include a Ring of Fire daredevil BMX stunt-rider, resident
hermit, and Battle of the Bands competition judged by Radio 1 and Radio
Cymru DJ Huw Stephens.
And its on its way to Blaenau Ffestiniog!
Revelling in the spirit of the rock n' roll tour, Road Show is travelling
to four venues only. Blaenau Ffestiniog represents Wales Birmingham
and Grizdale, England, and Dundee Scotland. Literally rolling into town
(in a lorry) are a host of performers, artists and musicians. Its
all FREE, its all FUN and its all a lot different from your average Saturday
afternoon stroll into town.
Road Show involves the Blaenau community with a series of workshops in
advance of the event (schools specify the hermits job description,
for example) and then, for three days, creates a vibrant focus in the
town drawing people in from miles around.
The event is entirely bi-lingual and includes newly commissioned works
from Welsh artists and performers. Real Institute also tours a film programme
to all touring venues, while an expansive catalogue documents the whole
Blaenau event.
At the end of the tour, all the artworks and documentary evidence forms
a museum-style exhibition in Dundee.
