Alternative Film Nights ~ October 2007 20 October 2007, Betws y Coed Memorial Hall, doors 2pm, 4.30pm & 7.30pm Something special from Real Institute this month as we take over the Memorial Hall for an afternoon and evening to present a unique piece of modern cinema! Trilogie: One~Two~Three
Over three films (in three genres: thriller, comedy, and melodrama), three intersecting stories depict the events of one hectic week in the Alpine town of Grenoble. Each movie stands on its own but works best as a whole. The leads from one film reappear in the others as supporting players and as scenes are repeated and gaps in the story are filled, shifts in context transform our understanding of events and characters. "Unparalleled…A work of staggering virtuosity." Sight and Sound PLUS DJ A10 Badaboom PLUS Live Music Gwilym Morus, Ben Marshall & John Lawrence PLUS compere Dafydd Chilton tickets £3 per film of £6 for whole day
Trilogie 1: An Amazing Couple (111mins - doors 2pm)
A comedy of errors around the story of a hypochondriac man’s decision not to tell his wife about a routine medical operation which he is convinced will kill him. She takes his secrecy as evidence of an affair and hires Pascal, the detective husband of a friend, to follow him. The man soon begins to suspect his closest fiends are conspiring against him. This is the film Belvaux would like us to see first. He describes it as a "gentle introduction" to characters and themes explored in a far more trenchant and unsettling way in the next two movies Trilogie 2: On The Run (97mins - doors 4:30pm)
Leftist Revolutionary Bruno escapes from prison to the streets of Grenoble in an attempt to settle some old scores after serving 15 years for an act of terrorism. Along the way however Bruno's motives prove too hostile for those he thought he could trust, while his emotions get the better of him when he takes pity on a junkie named Agnès which only complicates his situation. A tense thriller built around movements of a paranoid and hostile anti-hero with the odds stacked against him. Trilogie 3: After Life (123mins - doors 7:30pm)
