Real Institute was founded in September 2000 in direct response to the paucity of alternative cinema in the region. Since then it has staged regular ‘Alternative Film Nights’, featuring cabaret compere, newly commissioned film and independent world cinema, plus several special events such as ‘Really Restrictive Shorts’ and 'Roadshow' involving a variety of art forms.
Since its launch, Real Institute has run over 60 art events, signed up over 500 members and brought a strong whiff of odd-smelling air to countless north Walian nostrils.
